At the museum, the students will prepare for their journey using the virtual scavenger hunt *De Matrozenreis* (The Sailor\u2019s Voyage). The admiral will tell them all about life and work as a sailor. Afterward, they will walk to the quay next to the dry dock, where the naval ship *De Buffel* is moored. There, they will experience what life and work on board are really like. The themes of communal living and citizenship run as a common thread through this program.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Orientation towards oneself and the world (core objectives 34, 36, 50, 51)<\/strong>
Core objective 34: Pupils learn to take care of their own physical and mental health and that of others. \u2013 Link to program: During the ‘Sailors’ Journey’ (Matrozenreis), pupils learn about the harsh living conditions of sailors on board ships, such as diet, hygiene, and health. This contributes to an understanding of health care, both in the past and the present.<\/div>\n
Core objective 36: Students learn the key aspects of the Dutch and European systems of government and the role of the citizen. \u2013 Link to the program: The program introduces aspects of Dutch maritime history\u2014including the role of ship crews and the hierarchy on board (such as admirals and sailors)\u2014which provides insight into how organizations function and how collaboration works.<\/div>\n

Core objective 2: Students learn to express themselves\u2014in terms of both form and content\u2014when giving an oral presentation. \u2013 Link to the program: After the program, students have the opportunity to share their experiences and what they have learned during an evaluation or a Q&A session with the facilitator or admiral. Core objective 4: Students learn to retrieve information from informative and instructional texts, including digital sources. \u2013 Link to the program: During the scavenger hunt, students use tablets to access tasks and questions presented as text.
