Fortresse Holland

Open-air museum Hellevoetsluis

The Buffel has been a registered museum since April 2022 and from July 1, 2022, visitors can use the MUSEUM ANNUAL PASS.

The foundation board of Museum Ramtorenschip Buffel has been committed to creating a broad museum offering on the island of Voorne since 2016.

That is why we contributed to the establishment of the Fortresse Holland Foundation. This foundation was established to create an Open Air Museum within the ramparts of Hellevoetsluis. The plan is for the Museum Ramtorenschip Buffalo to enter into an intensive collaboration with this foundation.

Discover the new museum in Hellevoetsluis! This open-air museum offers fascinating presentations about the navy and coastal defense. Stroll through outdoor exhibits, journey through the corridors of the Dry Dock, visit the Visitors Depot and discover maritime ships. Come and be enchanted by the stories of the sea. Let us take you on a journey to the heart of the Iron Age, where iron becomes as indispensable to our needs as air, water and fire. Discover the importance of the Hellevoetsluis National Shipyard and Jan Blanken’s Dry Dock, where ships were repaired and maintained. Experience the skills and expertise of the craftsmen who made it possible for modern ships to sail the oceans. From the stone Dry Dock to iron pumps, from caulking to blacksmiths, here you will discover Hellevoetsluis in its heyday during the Iron Age.

The Museum Warehouse of Fortresse Holland Open Air Museum Hellevoetsluis presents two permanent exhibitions: The Iron Age and the Timeline of Hellevoetsluis. There is also the annually changing temporary exhibition. Visit www.fortresseholland.nl for entrance tickets, current information, prices and opening hours.
