Appendix A1 Additional visiting conditions for people with dementia and their loved ones/guardians (Unforgettable):
In the context of ‘making the museum ship “Buffel” accessible to people with dementia and their loved ones’ (Unforgettable), the following conditions have been drawn up below under which these visits can take place:
An application will always be assessed and supervised by volunteers who have completed the “unforgettable” course (see list below). In addition, assistance can be requested from other museums, whose volunteers have also followed the course.
A number of programs have been developed for visits by people with dementia according to the “Unforgettable” guidelines.

• Prior to the visit, clear agreements must be made with the institution and/or supervisors/coordinators about the program to be followed, arrival time, duration of the tour and additional wishes regarding the personal condition of the guests with dementia. A brief explanation of the backgrounds of the guests is also useful for the tour guide and hosts.
• People and their companions who use a wheelchair or walker unfortunately cannot be admitted because the museum ship “Buffel” is not facilitated for this group.
• People with different levels of dementia should be shown separately, preferably on separate dates.
• The group of guests may not contain more than 8 to a maximum of 10 people (including supervisors). Preference is given to 1 supervisor per guest with dementia.
• The group of volunteers must consist of at least 1 tour guide and two hosts who have all followed the course.
• The tour for guests with dementia should preferably take place at times when the museum is closed to other public, to prevent unwanted stimuli that could make the guests restless.
• A visit to the museum ship Buffel must consist of the following elements:
– Reception and presentation of volunteers (coffee/tea) and explanation of the program.
– Guided tour.
– Do assignment.
– Closing.
• The host’s task consists of a smooth, hospitable reception and offers the tour guide support with logistics and organization. During the tour, the host ensures a smooth flow and keeps an eye on the time. The host also ensures that there are sufficient folding chairs available at various objects/rooms where necessary.
• Guides and hosts must wear a clear name sticker.
• Tour guide and hosts must have clearly reviewed and coordinated the program, route and tasks.
• Visitors must be welcomed on or near the gangway and accompanied to the cash register and cloakroom. Then take the visitors to the meeting point where the reception and tour will start.
• Explain the program clearly and tell what you want to show.

The entrance costs for groups of people with dementia must still be determined in consultation with other participating museums and the municipality of Hellevoetsluis.
